MS Dhoni can take some rest, CSK have a long batting order: Brian Lara

After Chennai Super Kings’ 45-run win over Rajasthan Royals on Monday, West Indies legend Brian Lara has suggested that MS Dhoni can afford to take some rest as his team’s batting order was long enough and its players were in form,

The former captain added that 3-time champions CSK should not be expecting too much from MS Dhoni with the bat.

Notably, no CSK batsman could hit even a half-century in the match but the team managed to pile up 188 runs on the board vs RR. MS Dhoni came ahead of Sam Curran at the 7th position in the match and scored 18 off 17 balls. Dwayne Bravo and Shardul Thakur were team’s 9th and 10th batsman respectively.

“I don’t think there should be asking for too much effort from MS Dhoni with the bat. Of course, he got the gloves in his hands, he has got to take the catches and do the stumpings. But I find that batting order is so long, Dhoni can take some rest. We want him in form, we know how destructive he can be but he has got so many good players. Look at Sam Curran, who is in great form. He comes in and hits from ball one straightaway,” Brian Lara told Star Sports.

Further, Brian Lara reckoned that CSK can successfully grab their 4th title if MS Dhoni concentrates on bringing the best our of all his players.

“I think they have got a very good team. A good leader who is inspirational. If he concentrates on that aspect of it, getting every single individual performing, they can go all the way,” Lara stated.

With 2 wins from 3 matches, CSK are currently placed second on the points table behind RCB.
