Sri Lanka’s tour of West Indies was postponed Friday after Head Coach Mickey Arthur and top order batsman Lahiru Thirimanne tested positive for COVID-19 earlier in the week.

The tour was scheduled to commence on 20 February with SL due to play two Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is. The two Tests were to be part of the ICC World Test Championship. Both SL and WI are not in contention for a place in the final. SL are placed seventh, while WI are placed eighth out of the nine teams in contention.

The 36-member squad was to commence their fitness test yesterday under Physical Performance Manager Grant Luden, but it has also postponed due to the new development.

Both Arthur and Thirimanne have been directed to follow the government’s health protocol on COVID-19. Thirimanne confirmed that he has tested positive for the virus but said he has ‘got zero symptoms’.

“Considering the current situation, SLC  has decided to postpone the Tour of West Indies, which was scheduled to commence on 20th Feb. 2021,” a top SLC official said.

“In the meantime, Sri Lanka Cricket will continue with normal operations, adhering to the stipulated Health Protocols in all its centers.”
