Former Sri Lanka player Chamara Kapugedera has been appointed as the head coach of Moors SC, replacing Gayan Wijekoon, Cricket Age reliably learns.

One of the most destructive Sri Lankan batsman of last decade, Kapugedera played 8 tests, 102 ODIs and 43 T20Is for his country. One of the cleanest six hitters of the ball, Kapugedera, however, couldn’t justify his immense talent and eventually retired in 2019 from all form of cricket.

“He has joined the club as head coach and has promised the management to bring five players before next SLC tournament” an insider at Moors SC told Cricket Age.

Moors couldn’t qualify for the Super 8 in the SLC recently concluded  domestic tournament, but ended up winning the plate division. Gayan Wijekoon should have been credited for Club’s turnaround, but instead he is thrown out in the expense of Kapugedera.

Cricket Age understand that Kapugedera has already convinced his good friend and former Sri Lanka player Malinda Siriwardena and Amila Aponso to join Moors SC.

It has also learned that like Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC), Now Moors SC is also poaching players from other clubs, by giving them promises of lucrative contracts.

On September 1 itself, Cricket Age had published that SSC has been accused of poaching rival clubs players by using unethical methods.

The sensational allegation was made by Chilaw Marians secretary Godfrey Dabrera, who is also the manager of international venues and stadiums at Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).

It has learned that present SSC head Coach Thilana Kandambi and fast bowler Dhammika Prasad, who both played for Sri Lanka, have constantly been approaching other clubs players, using various kind of unethical tactics. Cricket Age understand that in last few weeks, apart from Chilaw Marians players, both Kandambi and Dhammika Prasad have also contacted other rival clubs cricketers in their bid to approach them to play for the SSC.
