‘Shoaib Malik better than Steve Smith’: Yuzvendra Chahal on art of playing spinners

During an Instagram Live session, Yuzvendra Chahal picked the top batters when it comes to playing spin bowling, with teammates Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma topping the list. The 29-year-old spinner also hailed New Zealand captain Kane Williamson as one of the better players of spin bowling, though the Kiwi had a different approach towards this specific trait.

“Virat and Rohit are obviously quality players of spin bowling so they will be at the top,” said Chahal. “Also Williamson makes life difficult for spin bowlers because he plays the ball really late, especially on a pitch that is slow.”

Chahal had come across ex-Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik during the 2018 Asia Cup match between India and Pakistan. It was then that the Indian came to witness the veteran Pakistani batsman’s skills against spin bowling.

“I was bowling to Shoaib Malik during the Asia Cup and was impressed with the way he was taking singles of good deliveries. I realised that this player has a lot of experience and I think he is better than Steve Smith when it comes to playing spin bowling,” he said.
