As entire world is on standstill due to Coronavirus Pandemic and all the Sporting events have been effectivelly cancelled or postponed, the cash-rich Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) has been forced to delay to pay Sinhala and Tamil New Year bonus to it’s staff, Cricket Age reliably learns.

The SLC is remained closed since March 14, when Country’s president Gotabaya Rajapaksa announced nationwide lockdown to control the spreading of the virus. Since, Board employees, as per the government guideline, have been told to work from the home until further notice.

Traditionally, Sri Lanka celebrates Sinhala and Tamil New Year in the month of April and SLC gives the yearly bonus on this auspicious occasion.

However, this year, the board has not paid bonus to any employee till now.

“Traditionally, the staff gets the bonus on April 10 every year. This time around, the staff has not received any news regarding this” an insider at SLC told Cricket Age.

It has learned that the board officials have delayed the bonus in order to accommodate the funds for the various construction works at Khetterama and other places.

Yesterday itself, Cricket Age had published that SLC has summoned it’s account department employees to report to work today (Thursday) to release some emergency fund for the contractors.

According to sources, SLC controversial ExCo member Sujeewa Godaliyadda has told staff that right now clearing the amount of contractors remains board’s top priority.

It is noteworthy that the Sri Lanka government has extended nationwide curfew many times in past one month, in order to control the virus. SLC has also granted LKR 25 Million to country’s President Gotabaya Rajapaksa for this purpose!
