SLC Summons Account Department For Approving Emergency Fund

Written by N Krishnamurthy

As the entire world is on standstill due to Covid-19 outbreak and all the Sporting events have effectivelly been cancelled or postponed, the cash-rich Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) has summoned it’s account department employees tomorrow (Thursday) to report at the office to release some emergency fund for the contractors, Cricket Age reliably learns.

The SLC has been remained closed since March 14, when Country’s president Gotabaya Rajapaksa announced nationwide lockdown to control the spreading of the virus. Since, the Board employees, as per the government guideline, have been told to work from the home until further notice.

In the latest development, however, the account department employees have been asked to report at board’s headquarter at Maitland Place tomorrow to release the emergency fund.

“The Board is carrying multiple construction works in Stadiums nationwide, mainly at Khetterama. The work is in progress since months and Board has to release the payment. That’s why, the account department people have been summoned tomorrow” an insider at SLC told Cricket Age.

When Cricket Age inquired further, it learnt that Sujeewa Godaliyadda – the controversial EXCo Member of the board and a loyal of tainted and embarrassingly banned former president Thilanga Sumathipala – has told employees that releasing the payment for contractors is the top priority at the moment.

“Godaliyadda is the one who creams all the money, as he is the incharge of most ongoing construction works. Due to his connection with Punchi Borella, he gets involved in NDC assignments also. So, it’s not a surprise, that even amid the Coronavirus threat, he is asking for emergency fund” the SLC insider added further.

It is noteworthy that Godaliyadda, the so called political advisor of Sumathipala, has been involved in many suspicious activities since 2016, as the secretary of Central North province as well. He has also been credited to single handedly destroy Sumathipala’s cricket ambitions and making him a laughing stock in World cricket, through his manipulative activities.
