The Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) has given its consent to Sports Minister Harin Fernando’s directive to appoint a four member committee for upcoming TV broadcasting rights, Cricket Age reliably learns.

The decision was taken during the SLC emergency Executive Committee (ExCo) meeting yesterday night (August 22).

During the meeting, departing immediate past President of SLC Thilanga Sumathipala opposed the directive initially, but at the end surrendered. His opinion, however, doesn’t count anymore anyway, as his dreams to rule SLC forever were shattered by a move from Harin Fernando, as he signed a gazette yesterday, that prevents administrator’s from holding any position in cricket, whom family directly or indirectly involves in betting and gambling.

Harin Fernando had written a letter SLC on August 20 to appoint a four member committee to deal upcoming TV rights.

The upcoming TV deal is scheduled for first half of 2020 and will be locked for next five years.

In his directive, Harin had instructed SLC to form the committee, that consists – board President Shammi Silva, CEO Ashley De Silva, Ministry Secretary Chulananda Perera and an ICC representative.

The letter also reads that the appointment of the committee is purely to insure that the TV rights deal evaluation process is carried out with utmost transparency at all times, as requested by many parties concerned.

The committee will be tasked to evaluate and submit a detailed report with their observations.
