On Thursday, at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai Indians defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in a contest which went till the Super Over (second of the edition) courtesy Jasprit Bumrah’s death bowling and twin wickets during SRH’s innings. He came back with his wide deliveries outside off stump and perfect yorkers to take his side to the playoffs.

Following the defeat, SRH skipper Kane Williamson was dejected with the final outcome after restricting MI to 162 for 5 but lauded Manish Pandey (71 not out) and Mohammad Nabi’s fiery cameo (30 off 21 balls).

“I have experience of few Super Overs and that time too, I finished on the wrong side. It was a fantastic effort by Manish and Nabi to get us so close. The first half was very good for us, our bowlers did a brilliant job. We just couldn’t get over the line” he said.

On SRH opting for Rashid Khan to bowl the Super Over with only 9 to defend despite in-form bowler, Khaleel Ahmed who finished with 3 for 42 in the match, the New Zealander opined, “We were waiting to see how many runs we will be able to get in the Super Over. When it was eight, we decided to go with Rashid. He is world-class in everything he does so we thought he is our man.”

SRH are still not out of it and have a healthy net run-rate as compared to others fighting for the one spot remaining in the playoffs race. They are next to play Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) against whom they won by 118 runs in the last faceoff.

“We have one game left and it is important that we approach that in a similar way,” added the 28-year-old after SRH’s defeat on Thursday (May 2).
