Is SLC Misleading ICC On Gurusinha?

Written by Rohit Pawar

On July 11, the International Cricket Council (ICC) sentenced Two Tests and four ODIs ban for Sri Lanka test Captain Dinesh Chandimal, Coach Chandika Hathurusingha and Manager Asanka Gurusinha for bringing disrepute to the game.

Referring their act to halt the game for nearly two hours during the second test against West Indies, ICC Judicial Commissioner slammed Sri Lankan trio by saying that ‘they should have been leaders by example, rather than ring leaders of dissent.”

However, it seems that Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) has still not waken up.

Especially the scenario related to Gurusinha is more confusing! The ICC has slapped two tests and four ODIs ban on Gurusinha, but the truth is that he has already vacated the post.

According to sources, Gurusinha has already joined as the High Performance Manager of SLC and has taken over the charge at Khetterama. More surprisingly, he was getting a salary package of 7 Thousands USD per month as a national team manager, but now will get 10 Thousands USD as a high performance manager.

In this scenario, it’s clear that ICC Penalty won’t be imposed on Gurusinha. Instead, SLC has offered him a salary increment, even though the post of high performance manager is of much lesser significance in comparison to national team manager post.

“That’s how SLC works! In ideal scenario, SLC must have put Gurusinha appointment on hold till the outcome of the ICC” a former SLC administrator told Cricket Age.
