Kumar Sangakkara Statement On SLC-Sports Minister Invitation

After Mahela Jayawardene, Muttiah Muralitharan and Roshan Mahanama, Former Captain Kumar Sangakkara has also declined the invitation to be a SLC consultant, Cricket Age reliably learns.

In a letter sent to Sports Minister Faizer Mustapha, he has reportedly highlighted the need to change the SLC constitution & Sports law to find a long lasting solution.

“In the letter, Sanga has made it clear that his past experience serving on a similar committee under the invitation of former Minister of Sports was a disaster. He has mentioned that he spent over 6 months on that particular advisory committee and found it to be an abject waste of time, as none of our recommendations were implemented or heeded” A top official of SLC told Cricket Age.

In the letter, Sangakkara has also made it clear that if the situation remain the same, none of the former players or administrator will come forward to serve Sri Lanka Cricket.

“He has said in the letter that There are many cricketers and administrators with genuine intentions that will not come forward with time, efforts and ideas as time and time again they feel they have been taken advantage of and used as pawns to buy time for political manoeuvring” The official added further, referring to Sangakkara letter.

On June 13, A day before All-Important Court Hearing Against Thilanga Sumathipala on a case filed by former secretary Nishantha Ranatunga, SLC and Sports Minister Made a public appeal to Country’s finest cricketers – Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara, Aravinda De Silva, Roshan Mahanama and Muttiah Muralitharan – To Join a consultant Committee.

The Idea was to put all of them into a committee on consultancy basis to get their advice on Cricket related matters.

However, few hours later, Mahela Jayawardene not only refused the idea, he also Completely exposed SLC’ motive behind this.

“With all due respect to the selectors & the sports minister i have spent 1 year in the cricket committee & 6 months in a special advisory committee & no recomendations were implimented. I dont have any trust in the system. If any one wants to buy time please dont use us!” he wrote on his twitter handle.

The tweet had an immediate impact! It created a havoc! within few hours, it became a talking point in entire Cricket fraternity.
