At Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC), It’s all about President Thilanga Sumathipala! He is the one decision maker, face of the board and also the Unofficial Spokesperson, as he himself prefers to talk big about his achievements, at every single occasion. Just to give strengthen to ‘Brand Sumathipala’ SLC normally calls for 8 to 10 press conferences in a month. In comparison, BCCI, the richest and most powerful cricket board, hardly calls 2 or 3 press conferences in a whole year!
So, in yet another routine Press conference on May 1st, Sumathipala self proclaimed that he is the best cricket President, Sri Lanka Cricket has ever seen. He further announced that he is the best person in Sri Lanka to run the SLC and under his supervision, the game in the country is at all time high!
Unfortunately for Sumathipala, hardly within 24 hours after his Big Statements, the ICC released Annual Cricket Rankings!
And Sri Lanka Cricket found itself at their all time low. According to Rankings, Sri Lanka slipped to an all time low of number nine in T20Is and ranked below Bangladesh in ODI Cricket at number eight!
Before Sumathipala took over as SLC President, Sri Lanka were the number one in T20 cricket, having won the 2014 world cup. In ODIs, they were among Top three and been considered a world beater.
Now, Under Sumathipala wings, Sri Lanka is finding itself below even to Bangladesh and Afghanistan!
It shows, Sumathipala is Telling One Story, Sri Lanka Rankings are Telling Other!
