AB De Villiers Goes Past Kohli and Warner in List of Most IPL Sixes

Written by Shreyas Vyas

AB de Villiers is the most complete batsman of modern cricket era, one who can play shots in every direction. Come the shortest format of the game, he becomes all the more dangerous.

During the third match of IPL 2018, between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday, de Villiers wreck havoc on opposition bowlers as he smashed them all round the park. In his innings of 44 from 23 balls, he struck a whopping five sixes to go with a four. With this effort de Villiers became the third-highest six-hitter in IPL history. He now has 161 sixes in the tournament, as he surpassed David Warner, who has 160 sixes to his name. The list is topped by West Indian Chris Gayle – 265 sixes.

However, he got out at the wrong time and couldn’t take RCB to a impossible total. With de Villiers looking in a murderous mood, Dinesh Karthik handed the ball to Rana. De Villiers was already batting on 38 off just 22 balls with the help of 4 sixes at that time.

Interestingly, the over started on the worst possible note for Rana. De Villiers pulled a short ball for a huge six over long-on. However, Rana had the last laugh as de Villiers miscued a shot on the very next delivery.
