Dinesh Chandimal to Miss Next Two Matches Of Nidahas Trophy, Tharanga Likely to Lead

Written by Rohit Pawar

Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal is set to miss next two matches of Nidahas trophy, due to slow over-rate in the T20I against Bangladesh on Saturday. In his absence, Upul Tharanga is most likely to lead the team for the next two matches.

“Selectors will have a chat with Upul Tharanga as he is the obvious choice. Though, if he refuses, then Thisara Perera is the next option” A top SLC official told Cricket Age.

On Saturday, Sri Lanka lost the match by 5 wickets, even after posting a mammoth total of 214.
Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim played a memorable knock to help his team beat Sri Lanka.

The right-hander scored an unbeaten 72 off 35 balls as Bangladesh chased down the target of 215 with 2 balls to spare. Mushfiqur was adjudged Man of the Match for his match-winning effort. The 30-year-old struck 4 sixes and 5 boundaries in a display of high-quality batting under pressure.

Sri Lanka to play India at the same venue R. Premadasa on Monday.
