Virat Kohli has not been tested yet as captain, says Bishan Singh Bedi

During the Challenging South Africa tour, India lost the Test series 2-1, but bounced back to script a historic 5-1 ODI series win and then bagged the T20Is 2-1 to take home the limited-overs leg and a lot many laurels. Kohli-led India did what the nation failed to achieve in five of their attempts, and in a ravishing a dominating manner. Despite all, Indian spin legend Bishen Singh Bedi reckons that Kohli is yet to be tested as a skipper.

“Let me be very honest. He is leading from the front as a batsman. Team is showing results,” Bedi told.

“You talk about Steve Waugh, you talk about Michael Brearley. [They were] real thinkers of the game. He is yet to leave that impact. I want him to show that. He has not been tested yet.”

Kohli took over Test responsibility after MS Dhoni shock retirement plan after the Boxing Day Test during India’s tour of Australia in 2014. Since then, India bagged 21 Test victories in 35 matches losing nine of them. His journey as a limited-overs skipper started in 2017 and donning the blue, India won 38 victories in 49 ODI matches, facing defeats on 10 occasions. And in T20Is, he has led India to seven wins in 12 matches.

“Kohli is phenomenal with his consistency. What I admire more about him is his intensity. He is very intense. He is frighteningly intense,” Bedi said.
