How Former FC Cricketers from Cavelliers Club benefiting at SLC?

Written by Rohit Pawar

K. Mathivanan, Incharge of International cricket after a disastrous tenure as domestic cricket head, prefers to showcase himself as ‘Mr. Clean’ of Sri Lanka Cricket. However, his alleged involvement in notorious and controversial sagas like – Kalutara-Panadura fixing, Ragama-Saresens Controversy and ACU episode, tells another side of story of him!

Recently, he gave a safe path to his close associate Chandrika Rodrigo, while penalised two umpires without any fault, for the controversial Ragama-Saresans match. On the other hand, the investigation of Panadura-Kalutara match fixing saga is still ‘Mysteriously’ going on, and even after one year there is no ‘proper’ progress on the saga. It is noteworthy that Mathivanan was the incharge of domestic cricket at that time.

Now take this : There is an old club in Colombo called Cavelliers Cricket Club. Former first class cricketers are the members of the club and Mathivanan also served the club as president.

Mysteriously, most of the members of the Cavelliers club have been appointed as match referees and managers of provincial teams in recent years.

Former first class cricketers like Basil Perera, K.H.Nandasena, Nalliah Devarajan, Pemlal Fernando, Sripal Silva are among the cavelliers, who are serving Sri Lanka cricket as match referees and managers of provincial teams.

“There are lot of former first class cricketers who wants to contribute to Sri Lanka Cricket. Unfortunately, only the members of the Cavelliers club gets opportunities” a source, who used be to close with Mathivanan, told Cricket Age.
