Angelo Mathews Ruled out of Nidahas Trophy With Calf Injury

Sri Lanka’s injury ridden captain Angelo Mathews is set to miss the upcoming Nidahas trophy, as he need more time to fully recover from his hamstring injury And also ended up hurting his calf during rehab session, Cricket Age reliably learns.

“Mathews is ruled out of the Nidahas trophy, as team physio had informed SLC that he shouldn’t be rushed to play after sustaining another injury, even though it is not serious one” a top official of SLC told Cricket Age.

Mathews had been re-appointed Sri Lanka shorter formats captain before the Bangladesh tour in January. However, he could play only the first match of the tri series and ruled out for the reminder of the tour with hamstring injury.

There is a T20 tournament is in progress and Mathews was tipped to return to competitive cricket for Colts Cricket Club. However, after he picked another injury, and the physio recommendation suggests, he is still not fit enough to return.

In the absence of Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal will once again lead the team. Nidahas trophy, involving India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, will kick off from March 6.
