Sri Lanka Cricket YouTube Channel banned!

Written by Rohit Pawar

The YouTube channel of Sri Lanka Cricket has been banned after the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) and Sony Television have complained to YouTube against publishing unauthorized footage of recent matches in India, on the channel.
As a result of the ban, the SLC could not carry a webcast of the last T20 game on their site.

There is a racket by a group in SLC in the awarding of broadcasting rights of the national team’s tournaments.

No live telecasts are allowed if someone buys the rights for international matches, and for news, only a one-minute of footage is allowed free of charge.
Therefore, SLC’s website carried a webcast of just one over of each match of the Indian tour and then carried a so-called live commentary showing only the faces of the commentators. However, in the second T20 game, the SLC web carried the entire match, while the SLBC and Rasa radios gave commentaries. That resulted in the imposition of the ban following an intervention by Sony.

According to sources, there are few persons within the SLBC are preventing the institution from getting broadcasting rights for cricket.

Ravin Wickramrathne, the powerful and controversial Assistant Secretary of SLC has been appointed the pillar head of Media and web by ExCo.
