We Were Scrappy from the outset, says Mathews after defeat against Zimbabwe

Belligerent half-centuries from Two Perera’s – Kusal at top and Thisara at the bottom, gone into the vain, as Zimbabwe defeated Sri Lanka by 12 runs in a nail biting thriller in the second match of the tri series at Dhaka on Wednesday.

Sri Lanka lost too many wickets in the middle overs, however captain Angelo Matthews blamed the leaked runs in the first 10 overs for the defeat.

“We were scrappy from the outset, gave away too many runs in the first 10 overs” said Mathews during the post match presentation.

“They had the wickets in the last 10 overs to capitalize on it. The run rate was pretty good, but we just kept losing wickets. Thisara was fantastic with bat and ball and Kusal batted brilliantly. Unfortunately, the others couldn’t convert that” he added.
