Is Mathivanan Still Acting as Incharge of Domestic Cricket?

Written by Pushpendra Albe

K. Mathivanan, the powerful Vice president of Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) is still acting as the incharge of domestic cricket, even though he has been officially drafted into international cricket during the EGM that took place on January 7, Cricket Age learns.

According to SLC, Now former secretary Mohan De Silva is overseeing domestic cricket. However, on January 10, Mathivanan summoned two umpires for an alleged inquiry regarding the controversial happenings during a recently concluded domestic match between Ragama CC and Saracens SC.

The three day match of the premier Tournament 2017/18 was being played on 22, 23 and 24th December at Thurstan Cricket Ground, Colombo.

During the match, all three days were affected by bad lights and on field umpires took the right decision, according to the rules and regulations of ICC guidelines, to stop the game.

However, According to sources, on January 10, both the umpires Mohan de Silva and Maurice Dela Zilwa were summoned by SLC Vice President International Cricket K. Mathivanan into his kabin and were told that they would be able to do the umpiring only in the second round of the ongoing Three day domestic tournament.

Interestingly, it has turned out as the first incident in Sri Lanka cricket history, when the umpires were penalised for stopping the match due to bad light.

Though, the bigger question is that why is Mathivanan still acting as a Domestic Incharge. According to sources, Mohan De Silva has been returned from his vacations in Australia and was present at the SLC on January 10.

The other interesting thing in the whole saga is that Mathivanan has played for the same club Saracens in his younger days. Also, the former president of Saracens Nuski Mohammad is a close associate of Mathivanan.
