Chandra Rodrigo Abuses On Field Umpires during a domestic Match

During a three day match between Ragama CC and Saracens SC of the premier Tournament 2017/18, which was played on 22, 23 and 24th December at Thurstan Cricket Ground, Colombo, Many abusive acts took place, Cricket Age learns.

On the third and final day, Saracens were chasing a target of 256. However, when they were at 222/5 and going for an outright win, bad light stopped play once again, as it happened in previous two days as well. When there was no improvement in the conditions, finally umpires took the right decision to called the match off and it was ended In a draw.

However, according to sources, Chandra Rodrigo, the team manager of Saracens couldn’t cope with the outcome of the match and openly abused on field umpires.

Apart from being the manager of Saracens, Chandra Rodrigo Is a liaison Officer of the Sri Lanka team as well, though on the tour basis. In Sri Lanka cricket, he been overrated as a powerful man. He was a man of Jayantha Dharmadasa and now very close to a longtime close associate of JD, who is a powerful person at SLC.

Furthermore, he established a myth to be a powerful man on his cunning acts spreading gossips to ears of top officials which he is used to do from Nishantha Ranatunga era.

According to sources, Rodrigo not only abused umpires, but also threatened to called K. Mathivanan to intervene. Mathivanan though has now been drafted into international cricket, but he is overseeing domestic cricket as well, as newly appointed incharge Mohan De Silva is in Australia on holidays.

Not surprisingly, after the match both the umpires were told that they can’t do umpiring for now, as there is an inquiry going on against them. According to sources, the outcome of the inquiry will come out on January 10.
