‘Rested’ Malinga refuse to take rest, opts to play domestic match

One of the most iconic player in Sri Lanka cricket history Lasith Malinga has refused to take rest even after his Cricket Board announced that he has been ‘rested’ for the three match T20Is series against India. Instead, Malinga opted to play in a domestic three day match, in order to prove himself yet again, Cricket Age learns.

Sri Lanka named a 15 men squad for the India T20 series yesterday. The name of Malinga was missing there and SLC stated in its media release itself that he has been rested.

However, Malinga opted to play a three day match for Nondescript Cricket Club (NCC) against Tamil Union. The match is in progress and Malinga took two wickets also.

According to sources, Malinga opted to play in the match at very last moment. He didnt play the first match for NCC against Chilaw where NCC lost outright on the second day.

He recently played in the BPL for Rangpur Riders, though, returned midway through in the hope to be selected for the India Series. He had been named in the preliminary squad, however Selectors decided to give him the ‘rest’ at last moment.

One of the most successful bowler in the history of Shorter formats, Malinga last played for Sri Lanka in the one off t20 match against India in September.
