The national selectors on Monday announced the team for the third Test and the One-day International series against Sri Lanka. While selectors ignored heavyweights like Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina once agsin, there was one player from Punjab deserves a mention–Siddarth Kaul. Interestingly, Kaul received the India call-up news, While playing the Ranji Trophy game for Punjab in Amritsar, the match referee Sunil Chaturvedi sent in a message through umpires Vineet Kulkarni and K Srinath for Kaul about his India selection.

“It was drinks break at that time and one of the umpires came up to me and said that match referee sir (Chaturvedi) had informed that I have been selected in the Indian ODI squad. I didn’t know how to react at that moment. It was the biggest piece of news in my cricketing career and I got it on field,” Kaul told PTI during an interaction.

He has been a steady performer in domestic cricket for a while now. He has been impressive for Punjab, North Zone, India A and Sunrisers Hyderabad consistently. He has 175 first-class wickets from 50 games and 99 List A scalps from 52 matches.
