Rangana Herath to Skip final test against India

Written by Rohit Pawar

Sri Lanka bowling wizard Rangana Herath is likely to miss the third test against Sri Lanka, starting from Saturday, Cricket Age learns.

It has learnt that Hearth had told the SLC that he would play only two test against India. Thus, SLC has named Right-Arm leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersay is his possible replacement.

Herath, the greatest and most successful left arm spinner in the world, has been a rather ordinary test series against India to far. He bowled only 8 overs in the greenish Kolkata pitch. In the second test at Nagpur, he bowled 39 overs but could take a single wicket, as Indian batsmen piled on runs and posted a formidable total of 610/6 in their only innings of the match.

Though, Sri Lanka has already a wrist spinner Lakshan Sandakan with the team, Vandersay is expected to join the squad by tomorrow.

Vandersay has not yet made his test debut, though so far played 11 ODI’s and 7 T20I for his country.

A horrendous batting display by the visitors saw India thrash Sri Lanka by an innings and 239 runs in the second Test at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The visitors fell like a pack of cards in the first session on Day 4, losing 7 wickets in no time.

Spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja did most of the damage while Ishant Sharma also bowled well as the visitors were bundled out for 166 runs in the second innings. Sri Lanka were all out for 205 in their first innings while India declared on 610 for six in their first innings, taking a 405-run lead.
