Sri Lanka star allrounder Asela Gunaratne is fit and has been medically cleared and could be drafted into the test squad against India for the remaining two matches, though for that to be happened, though it depends on tour management whether the team needs him or not, Cricket Age learns.

Gunaratne, who fractured his thumb during the first test against India during the home series, returned to competitive cricket recently during a SLC Premier Emerging League Match for his team Army SC.

“Asela has proved his match fitness. Though, we have not taken a call as yet. We have selected best and balanced squad for the India tests and as everyone can see they fought brilliantly in the first test and showed lot of commitment. So for us to consider Asela, a request should come from the tour Management” Chairman of Selectors Graeme Labrooy told Cricket Age.

Sri Lanka stunned everyone with their fighting spirit during the Kolkata test and for the better part of the match proved a superior team than the Indians. The younger players like Niroshan Dickwella, Dasun Shanaka also showed lot of commitment and prospered under pressure.

In addition to a settled playing XI, Sri Lanka also already have two inform batsmen Dhananjaya De Silva and Roshen Silva in their squad.

The second test to start on 24th November in Nagpur.
