Upul Tharanga could be banned for eight months

Written by Rohit Pawar

Sri Lanka shorter formats captain captain Upul Tharanga, who has been suspended for two times in the last three months, is at risk of being more severely punished within the next year.

In the second one-day international between India and India, he handed a two match ban by the ICC for a further overtime.

Tharanga had previously been banned for two matches during the Champions trophy for the same offence.

Now, if Tharanga once again find guilty of slow over rate, during the one year period started from champions trophy, means till 3rd June 2018, ICC could impose a suspension of at least eight months.

Cricket Age has reliably learnt that Match referee Andy Pycropt has informed the Sri Lanka Cricket Board about this, and the ICC will also notify Ashley de Silva, the Executive Manager of SLC in the near future.
