SLC Made press conference for Second ODI a mockery

Written by Shreyas Vyas

The Pre-Match Press conference for the second ODI between Sri Lanka and India turned out to be comedy as SLC employee Vrai Raymond made it mockery with she trying to interrupt and strong-arm media manager, Dinesh Ratnasingham in front of journalists during the conference.

Raymond, who wasn’t handling any of the Pre or post match press conferences during the series, started the proceeding all of sudden while Media manager looks on. She stated that there are going to be statements from Coach and Captain before the press conference which was unusual for a pre-match press conference.

It seems,  following SL Coach Nic Pothas opened up in Dambulla about interference of SLC as he state “Too many cooks is probably accurate “  ,  SLC had hurt by the truth and needed him to revoke such statement .

“When you get consistency within a team of players, you will see improvements in performance. When we’re getting new players every game, it gets very difficult from a confidence point of view. From the player’s point of view it’s very difficult. It’s difficult for us – the coaching staff – to create a strategy.” Pothas said in Dambulla which created havoc about selection and interference where Sri Lanka team saw many players playing ODIs during recent past without any player getting consistent run in the team.

But yesterday it was obvious that SLC had asked Pothas to make a statement clarifying that where he was present at Pre-Match press conference along with Coach and made statement taking a U turn which is unusual for the pre match press.  Also media Manager seems had no idea that there is going to be such statement where Raymond jumped in .

“I think its need to be stated that I’m very happy at the moment with everything that goes on within four walls in that change room. just to clarify I’m very happy with the situation I’m happy with the board(SLC) that they are very supportive in  everything I do and players do and they continue to support so certainly I have no issues there.  “said Pothas in his statement.

The Drama started following the statement. As floor open for questions Raymond let Ratnasingham handle procedure but again tried to jump in t indicating him to stop questioning just after few questions with several dramatic hand gestures .

Sri Lanka coming through heavy defeat in first ODI and white-wash from India . To top that Sri Lanka’s automatic qualification for the ICC World Cup 2019 too in danger where obviously media had lot of questions to be asked .

Also SLC sent an email in the previous day that press conference will start at 1.00pm where journalist from Colombo too had come to Pallekele just for that along with some Indian journalists where they certainly did not come all the way for less than five minutes press conference.

Also since there’s a media manager who handle media proceeding it was unclear as of why she needed to make a dramatic entrance there and try to dominate the proceedings.
