Shehan Jayasuriya, in red hot form in last one year

Written by Pushpendra Albe

Sri Lanka limited overs batsman Shehan Jayasuriya has become a symbol of consistency since last one year, with several outstanding performances with both bat and ball.

A dashing left-hander, prefers to bat at top order, his purple patch started during the Red Bull cricket tournament in August last year, when he stunned everyone with his attacking brand of Cricket. 58, 77 and 112 were his scores in the tournament, as he single handedly crowned his team BMS as winner.

Later in the year, when west Indies A team toured Sri Lanka for unofficial ODI series, Shehan was on his peak once again, as he blasted a memorable 119 in the second match at Kurunegala.

His blistering form continues in the domestic circuit as well, as he was the top scorer of the premier league tournament, Tier A, with 731 runs to his name. Most memorable moment of his career also came during the tournament, when he blasted his highest FC score of 218 against Bloomfield. This was his first double century, as he reminded the selectors, that he is equally effective in the longer format as well.

And as if all these were not enough, just few days back he delivered another outstanding performance. against England Lions, he smashed a match winning knock of 83, surprisingly again at Kurunegala. And, that match was particularly one of the high point of his allround abilities, as with the score of 83, he outplayed England Lions batsmen as well with his canny off spin bowling,  as he picked 5 wickets for just 35 runs.

Selectors also seems impressed with his performances, as he was the part of tri series in Zimbabwe, in November 2016. Though, he is still not getting the more chances in the national team, which he deserves with his purple patch. But he is confident, that on the merit of his allround performance against England Lions few days back, he will certainly get a chance in ODI series against Bangladesh this month. FB_IMG_1489291356001
