In a turn of shocking events, it has been reported that that Rohit Sharma has been going through a lot of pressure, as he the BCCI is all geared up to take big calls if the former India skipper fails to perform in the ODI series against England, starting from Tuesday, July 14 at the Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham.
The BCCI can drop Rohit if he fails to perform well against the Three Lions, as the board wants to have ready backups for Rohit and other players like KL Rahul and Virat Kohli as they play very limited amount of white-ball cricket in calendar year.
The idea of rotating senior players was supposed to take place in the last ODI series against Afghanistan, where Rohit was supposed to be rested. But, Shubman Gill took the risk of batting at No.3 with Rohit and Yashasvi Jaiswal opening the innings. Jaiswal managed to hit a century and stayed in the scheme of things.
The 39-year-old batter has worked really hard on his fitness and lost a lot of weight to prolong his career in the ODIs. Fortunately, his hard work has paid off, as he has scored some big runs in the recent ODI assignments. Rohit mostly looked calm at the crease and went back to his conventional approach of spending time at the crease.
The former India skipper has managed to score 471 runs at an average of 47.10 and a strike rate of 102.16 with the help of three half-centuries and one century. He recorded his top score of 121 against Australia.
