Rohit Sharma Doubtful For Afghanistan ODI Series

Written by Toshi Pawar

The three-match ODI series between India and Afghanistan could lose some of its star appeal, with batting icon Virat Kohli reportedly ruled out due to a hamstring injury. In another setback for India, former captain Rohit Sharma remains doubtful for the series as he is also recovering from a hamstring issue.

According to reports, Rohit is yet to report to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru, where he is scheduled to undergo a fitness assessment before receiving clearance to participate.

Rohit and all-rounder Hardik Pandya have both been named in India’s ODI squad, subject to fitness clearance. Pandya, however, has already reported to the COE.

If Rohit fails to clear the fitness test, the selection committee could consider recalling Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was overlooked for the 15-member squad despite scoring a century in his most recent ODI appearance.

Meanwhile, Pandya will only be cleared for selection if he is deemed fit to bowl. The all-rounder has a history of back problems and recently missed several IPL 2026 matches because of back spasms.

Like Pandya, Rohit too sat out from a few games for Mumbai Indians this IPL season.

The three-match ODI series will get underway from June 13 in Dharamsala with the second in Lucknow (June 17) and third in Chennai (June 20).

India’s squad, led by Shubman Gill, also features three new faces including the pace duo of Prince Yadav and Gurnoor Brar besides left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey.
