In a landmark achievement, acclaimed writer-director-producer Pushpendra Albe’s Joothan has become Bollywood History’s first ever film to release in 100 screens in Ukraine.
The historic Initiative has been launched specifically for school children from all over Ukraine under the partnership of Pushpendra Albe’s film company Adopt A School Films and Max Sir International Film Festival’s “Cinema in Schools” programme.
The “Cinema at School” project, which was initiated by Yevheniya Kolesnikova, director and director of the Max Sir International Film Festival, allows school children from all over Ukraine to explore world cinema.
Albe’s Joothan focuses on caste discrimination within India’s primary education system, highlighting one of the country’s most sensitive social issues.
A powerful and deeply affecting social drama, Joothan is a compelling exploration of caste, courage, and the transformative power of education. The film follows Santosh, a principled school teacher whose unwavering belief in equality drives him to challenge the deeply entrenched caste discrimination within a rural village. What begins as a mission to bring children back to school evolves into a profound struggle for justice, dignity, and social change.
With its noble and socially-committed subject, Albe’s Joothan has emerged an outright global winner and continues to gain recognition on the international festival circuit, by winning a record-breaking 18 BEST FILM awards around the world.
“It is a poignant reminder that true change often begins with one person’s courage to challenge an unjust system. I have not made this film for commercial gain, but to awaken the society and erase any sort of discrimination from education. It’s great to see, the entire world is showering love and praise on Joothan” Albe said.
