Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continues to command widespread attention for his fearless batting in IPL 2026, with the Rajasthan Royals youngster now being compared to some of the most explosive batters in modern cricket. Players like Virender Sehwag, David Warner and Rishabh Pant were once seen primarily as white-ball specialists because of their attacking style, but all three eventually proved their worth in Test cricket as well.
Now, former Australia captain Aaron Finch believes Sooryavanshi could follow a similar path if India eventually chooses to give him an opportunity in the longest format. The 15-year-old left-handed opener has emerged as one of the breakout stars of this IPL season, producing explosive performances at the top of the order for Rajasthan Royals.
As discussions continue around a possible India debut in the upcoming T20I series against Ireland, Finch has suggested that the teenager’s aggressive approach could also make him a dangerous middle-order option in Test cricket.
“There’s a place in Test cricket for impact players like that. You think of Rishabh Pant and the point of difference he has, he’s one player who can put real fear into an opposition because he’s unpredictable,” Finch told the Sydney Morning Herald.
“We’ve seen what Vaibhav (Sooryavanshi) can do against the new ball in T20. If he batted at five in Test cricket against a 50-over-old ball, what could he do there?” he added.
