Star Australian spinner Adam Zampa has said that although his skipping the Indian Premier League and opting to play Pakistan Super League was a very quick turnaround of events, he is thoroughly enjoying it, adding that he feels he is underpaid in the IPL.
Zampa, who made his IPL debut in 2016 and featured for the Sunrisers Hyderabad last season, played just two matches, claiming two wickets at an economy of 11.75.
Zampa revealed that, after evaluating his form and the rigours of the two-month IPL schedule, he felt the financial offer did not align with his expectations.
Despite his strong international credentials, Zampa has struggled to make a mark in the IPL. In 22 matches, he has taken 31 wickets at an economy of 8.38, falling short of expectations.
This inconsistency has affected Zampa’s market value, preventing him from becoming a key cricketer for any of the four teams he has represented. Last season, Sunrisers Hyderabad signed him for Rs 2.4 crore, but he couldn’t make a significant impact, leaving doubts about his IPL future.
Meanwhile, Zampa has been featuring in this season’s PSL for Karachi Kings. In a recent interview, he explained his decision to skip the IPL, pointing to the tournament’s demanding schedule and financial factors as key reasons for sitting out this year.
“I pulled out of the IPL this year. To be brutally honest, for someone with my skill set, I just don’t get the money that is there for other skill sets. And for the amount of time that the IPL takes, it just did not seem like a reasonable choice for me to keep playing it,” Zampa said while speaking on the ARY Podcast.
