Vaibhav Sooryavanshi can ‘officially’ make his debut for India, having turned 15 on the eve of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

With his birthday on Friday (March 27), Sooryavanshi now meets the minimum age requirement set by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to play at the highest level.

As per ICC regulations — INTERNATIONAL CRICKET COUNCIL PLAYER ELIGIBILITY REGULATIONS ARTICLE 4, ELIGIBILITY ON THE BASIS OF AGE 4.1 – says players must be at least 15 years old to represent their national team.

The rule, introduced in 2020 to safeguard young athletes, states: “A Player will only be eligible to represent a National Cricket Federation in an International Match (including ICC Events and U19 Events) if he/she is aged 15 or over on the relevant squad submission date (in the case of ICC Events including U19 Events) or on the date of the first match of the series/tournament to the played (in the case of all other International Matches).”

With this criterion now fulfilled, Sooryavanshi is officially eligible for selection in India’s senior men’s team.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Rise

The young prodigy first captured global attention during IPL 2025, when he was picked up by Rajasthan Royals for a record ₹1.1 crore. He belted a six on the first ball he faced in the IPL. Days later he smashed a 35-ball hundred — the second fastest in the competition’s history.
