Sunil Gavaskar shared a light-hearted moment with India opener Abhishek Sharma after he scored an incredible 35-ball 84 during the first T20I against New Zealand in Nagpur on Wednesday, January 22. Abhishek put the Blackcaps bowlers to the sword and hit a total of five boundaries and eight sixes to help India post 238 for seven in 20 overs.

Abhishek’s knock helped India win the match by 48 runs as the hosts took a 1-0 lead in the series. Abhishek was speaking to the broadcasters when Gavaskar was also present and interacting with the Indian opener. The legendary batter joked that Abhishek got to his fifty in the same number of deliveries that he used to get off the mark during his playing career.

“He takes the same amount of balls to hit a half-century as what I used to take to get off the mark. There is a huge difference,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports after the match.

Abhishek got to his fifty in 22 balls, and he said that he was just trying to carry his intent throughout the innings. The southpaw said that he was backing his instincts during his knocks.
