Even as India failed to defend 359 in the second ODI of the ongoing three-match series against South Africa in Raipur, questions arose about the lack of experience in the pace-bowling department. India were without their senior pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, both rested for the ODI series due to workload management.

Former India fast bowler Harbhajan Singh has questioned the selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, wondering why Mohammed Shami’s services were not utilised, especially in the absence of Siraj and Bumrah.

Shami, who has been consistently taking wickets on the domestic circuit, has been repeatedly overlooked by the senior selection committee for international assignments. The fast bowler last played for India in their victorious Champions Trophy campaign in March.

“Where is Shami? I don’t know why Shami is not playing,” Harbhajan said on his YouTube show.

“I get it — you have Prasidh, he is a good bowler, but he still has a lot to learn. You had good bowlers, and you have slowly sidelined them. With Bumrah, this is a completely different bowling attack, and without Bumrah, it is entirely different altogether. We have to learn the art of winning games without Jasprit Bumrah,” he said.
