If India qualifies for WTC final, it will be a miracle: Aakash Chopra

Former cricketer Aakash Chopra has claimed that it will be a miracle if India qualify for the World Test Championship 2025-27 final after their 0-2 series loss to South Africa. The Proteas wrapped things up with a 408-run win against India in Guwahati, ending their 25-year wait for a series win on Indian soil.

This was India’s fourth loss in the ongoing WTC 2025-27 cycle, meaning that they’re currently fifth in the standings with a percentage of 48.15. India have just nine Test remaining in the current cycle but won’t play the long format until August 2026, when they will tour Sri Lanka.

This will be followed by another away series against New Zealand and then five Tests against Australia at home in 2027.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra said that he feels India won’t make it to the final. The former cricketer feels it will be impossible to achieve a clean sweep against Australia at home.

“We are number five in the WTC table. I don’t think we will be able to qualify. If we qualify, it will be a miracle. We are going to face Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka and New Zealand in New Zealand and then five matches against Australia at home. Achieving 100 percent points against Australia is next to impossible. We have less than 50 percent points, which is not a good thing,” said Chopra.
