Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s legacy will remain regardless of when they retire from game: Ravi Shastri

Former India coach Ravi Shastri claimed that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s legacy will not be tarnished even if they decide to prolong their respective careers. Rohit and Kohli have retired from Tests and T20Is over the past couple of years and have shifted their entire focus to ODIs. The big question at the moment is if both men will be there for the 2027 World Cup in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe.

While the BCCI have remained coy on their participation for the ICC event in a couple of years, both men have shown their interest with the preparations ahead of the Australia tour. Speaking to ICC, Shastri said that both men are well-respected and adored around the globe and they won’t forget the contributions of the star duo.

“The contribution is not over two or three years. The contribution is over a decade, decade and a half in the case of Virat,” Shastri noted.

“It’s massive and people don’t forget that. And they’ve played against some of the best bowlers that have been part of the game.”

“It’s special. Their legacy will remain. Whether they finish tomorrow or they finish the day after or whenever. That legacy will remain.”

Rohit and Kohli’s return to international cricket didn’t go as per plan as both men flopped in the first ODI against Australia in Perth. Rohit scored 8 while Kohli scored a duck as India were soundly beaten. Despite this, Shastri said he wouldn’t jump into judging both men just yet.
