India Vs West Indies, 1st Test: KL Rahul, Siraj, Bumrah Star On Day 1

Written by Vishwas Gupta

KL Rahul scored a patient half-century, talking 101 deliveries to get to the milestone as India ended the opening day at 121/2, trail West Indies by 41 runs. At stumps, Rahul was unbeaten on 53 in the company of captain Shubman Gill (18*)

Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal led a cautious start for India as they reached 23/0 in 12.4 overs before rain stopped play midway through the final session. Jaiswal though failed to build on his start after being caught behind for 36 off Jayden Seales. B Sai Sudharsan managed just 7 before being given out LBW off Roston Chase.

India may have lost the toss, but it didn’t matter after Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah combined to have West Indies all out for 162 in 44.1 overs. Siraj landed the first blow when he sent back Tagenarine Chanderpaul or an 11-ball duck. Bumrah followed by sending the other opener John Campbell on 8 before Siraj struck twice to leave WI struggling.

WI struggled to stitch together a good partnership as India continued to take wickets regularly. Siraj eventually finished with 4/40 while Bumrah took 3/42. Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets while Washington Sundar one. For the tourists, Justin Greaves top-scored with 32.
