BCCI to hold high-level meet before AGM to decide President, vice-president candidates

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is gearing up for its Annual General Meeting (AGM) later this month, with sources confirming that a high-level meeting of the board’s top brass will take place in the coming days. This closed-door discussion is expected to debate, shortlist, and finalise the names of candidates for the upcoming elections.

The AGM, scheduled for the last week of September in Mumbai, is likely to see continuity in some key positions. The posts of secretary, joint secretary, and treasurer are expected to remain unchanged, with the current office-bearers continuing their terms. The elections, however, will be held for the posts of president and vice-president — roles that could reshape the board’s leadership.

The president’s chair remains wide open at this stage, and insiders suggest the choice could range from a former Indian cricketer to a seasoned cricket administrator. Sources add that the board has not yet zeroed in on a single candidate, and the final call will only be made after the leadership meeting.

According to sources a legendary Indian cricketer known for smashing multiple records during his playing days may be considered for BCCI president.

The move is set to continue the trend of cricketers assuming leadership roles within the Board. In 2019, former India captain Sourav Ganguly became BCCI president, followed by 1983 World Cup winner Roger Binny and all signs are pointing towards a high-profile appointment.

Meanwhile, vice president Rajeev Shukla has stepped in as acting president.
