South Africa captain Temba Bavuma has dropped a major hint that Dewald Brevis could make his ODI debut during the series against Australia, which will begin on August 19. Brevis was in scintillating form for the Proteas during the T20I series against the Aussies. The 22-year-old scored 180 runs in three matches, including a record-breaking hundred, and hit 13 boundaries and 14 sixes.
Brevis earned praise from coach Shukri Conrad, who wanted the entire team to ‘show off’ a bit like the young batter on the field. Speaking ahead of the start of the series, Bavuma said that the chatter has been about Brevis over the past few weeks and the batter has been putting his hand up with some sensational performances.
Bavuma said he is excited to see what Brevis brings to the ODI setup after his success in the T20Is for the Proteas.
“It’s always exciting when you see the young faces,” Bavuma said.
“Obviously the big talk has been on Brevis, (he’s been) putting up his hand and showing what he is capable of.
“(I’m) excited to see what he can also bring within the one-day stuff.”
