Mohammad Azharuddin Lashes Out After India Decide To Play Pakistan In Asia Cup

Former cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin has said that India should have maintained consistency on not playing Pakistan in any cricket matches, and not take different decisions for the World Championship of Legends and the Asia Cup, after the BCCI decided to play Pakistan in the latter tournament.

According to the itinerary of the Asia Cup, the marquee group game between India and arch-rivals Pakistan will be held at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, September 14.

India, Pakistan, UAE and Oman are clubbed in group A, while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Hong Kong are in group B.

Addressing the media, Azharuddin lashed out at India’s decision to face Pakistan in the upcoming tournament, accusing the step of reflecting double standards.

“I always say that everything should happen, or if it doesn’t happen, then it shouldn’t happen at all. If you’re not playing bilateral games, then you shouldn’t play international events, that’s what I believe,” Azharuddin said.

“But whatever the government and the board decide will happen,” the former Indian cricketer added.

Azharuddin’s remarks came a week after the Yuvraj Singh-led India Champions team declined to play against the Pakistan Champions in Birmingham during the ongoing second season of the WCL.
