The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has officially announced that the 2025 edition of the Asia Cup will be held in the UAE between September 9-28.
This should end speculation over the tournament’s immediate future, which began in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack in Kashmir, where 26 innocents were killed by Pakistani terrorists. As the tensions escalated with Operation Sindoor and cross-border firing was prevalent for a few days, which led to several fatalities, calls were made in India to end all relations with Pakistan, including multi-national cricket tournaments.
Asia Cup will see eight teams (India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, UAE and Oman) compete. If the two warring neighbors are allotted the same group — which is often the case — it could lead to potentially three matches between them. Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the UAE are expected to be the host cities.
“I am delighted to confirm the dates for the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025 in UAE,” ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi said in a statement on X. “The prestigious tournament will take place from September 9th to 28th. We look forward to a spectacular display of cricket! Detailed Schedule will be out soon. #Cricketwins”
Defending champions India and the all-powerful Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will host the tournament. It’ll be played in the T20 format, allowing Asian heavyweights to begin their preparation for the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
