Dasun Shanaka, Chamika Karunaratne return for Bangladesh T20Is

Written by N Krishnamurthy

Former captain Dasun Shanaka and all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne have been recalled to the squad for the upcoming T20 International series against Bangladesh.

Shanaka, the seam-bowling all-rounder last played for Sri Lanka in July 2024 in the T20I series against India and had three consecutive ducks in the last three innings which forced him out of the international setup.

With the return of Shanaka back into the squad, Bhanuka Rajapaksa has faced the axe as the southpaw had a poor outing in New Zealand. The 33-year-old scored just 14 runs in the two matches.

Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are currently in the middle of the ODI series. The Charitha Asalanka-led unit won the first game by a comfortable margin, and the next two games of the series will be played on July 5 and 8.

The three-match series will begin on July 10 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. The second game will be played in Dambulla on July 13, while the final T20I is set for July 16 at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium (RPICS) in Colombo.
