England confident of triggering India collapse to stage comeback: Brook

Written by Abhishek Patil

India collapsed twice in two innings at Headingley to hand England the advantage. They are once again in the driver’s seat, this time in the second Test at Edgbaston, and England batter Harry Brook is hopeful that his side can trigger the sort of collapse they did in the first Test.

“Yeah, obviously they’re in front at the minute, but if we get a couple of early wickets in the morning, three or four wickets in the morning, you never know how this game can go. As we’ve seen last week, we got 7/30 runs and then 6/40 runs at Headingley, and then they’ve done the same to us today. In cricket, everything happens so quickly and you never know how the game can go,” Brook said after stumps on Day 3.

England chased down 371 in the first Test to go 1-0 up, and Brook, who scored a century in the first innings at Edgbaston, says that his side will go for the win regardless of the target in front of them.

“Yeah, and I think everybody in the world knows that we’re going to try and chase whatever they set us. So, we’ve obviously got a big task at hand tomorrow morning. We’ll try and get a couple of wickets early on and try and put them under pressure,” he said.

India are currently 244 runs ahead with nine wickets in hand heading into Day 4 at Edgbaston with KL (28) and Karun Nair (7) at the crease.
