KL Rahul hits 5th IPL hundred, goes past Shubman Gill in all-time list

Written by Vishwas Gupta

KL Rahul ended a three-year wait for an Indian Premier League century, scoring his maiden ton in Delhi Capitals colours during their high-stakes clash against Gujarat Titans on Sunday, 18 May. Rahul was at his elegant best, reaching the milestone in just 60 deliveries against a formidable Gujarat bowling attack at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

This was Rahul’s fifth IPL hundred and his first since the 2022 season, during which he notched up two centuries. The timing couldn’t have been better for Delhi Capitals, who were locked in a must-win fixture at a crucial stage in the race for the playoffs.

Rahul has now moved up to fourth place on the all-time list of batters with the most centuries in IPL history, overtaking Shubman Gill, who was previously level with him on four. He also became just the fifth batter to register a century in IPL 2025, joining Priyansh Arya, Ishan Kishan, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, and Abhishek Sharma.

Rahul celebrated his achievement in understated fashion but received widespread applause from the Delhi dugout. Team mentor Kevin Pietersen was particularly delighted, giving the star batter a standing ovation in recognition of his timely innings.
