Jofra Archer, Sam Curran and Jamie Overton will not return to India later this week to participate in the remainder of IPL 2025, but English stars like Jos Buttler, Jacob Bethell, Will Jacks and Liam Livingstone, among others, are expected to land in India on Wednesday (May 14) night to complete their IPL 2025 duties.
Archer was signed for Rs 12.50 crore by Rajasthan Royals in the mega auction last year, and he has played 12 matches for RR so far. Curran and Overton, on the other hand, are part of CSK’s IPL 2025 squad and have played five and three matches, respectively, for the MS Dhoni-led side. Both RR and CSK are out of the IPL 2025 playoffs race.
On Wednesday (May 14), “Information obtained from the ECB and franchises, Buttler, former England white-ball captain, will reach Ahmedabad on Wednesday night, and the same is the case with Will Jacks, the Mumbai Indians all-rounder, who should be at the Wankhede Stadium for practice from Thursday (April 15). Liam Livingstone, the all-rounder from Lancashire, who is with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), is believed to be on a flight to Bengaluru. There is, however, no clarity on Phil Salt, the other recruit from England, but Bethell is understood to be on his way to India.”
Earlier, while speaking to Cricbuzz on Wednesday, Chennai Super Kings confirmed that “Curran and Overton are not coming back, and the franchise has no plans to seek temporary replacements for the England players.”
As per the Rajasthan Royals official, Archer will not return because he is injured. “It is not a case of not being willing because we are out of reckoning for playoffs. He is nurturing an injury, and we are prioritising his fitness,” an RR official said.
