‘Protect Suryavanshi’: Greg Chappell Issues Warning To BCCI

Written by Abhishek Patil

Former Australian cricketer and India head coach Greg Chappell has said that much like how Sachin Tendulkar succeeded on the biggest stage despite being a teenager was not just because of the talent, but a firm support system, and Vaibhav Suryavanshi needs to be provided with that to ensure he goes a long way.

Vaibhav shattered the record books with his 35-ball hundred against the Gujarat Titans earlier this week, which surprised the cricketing world, and Chappell took note as well.

Chappell has issued a big warning to BCCI about managing Vaibhav, giving examples of Vinod Kambli and Prithvi Shaw.

“Sachin Tendulkar succeeded as a teenager not simply due to talent but because of a solid support system – a stoic temperament, a wise coach, a family that protected him from the circus,” Chappell wrote in his column for ESPNCricinfo.

“On the other hand, Vinod Kambli, equally talented and perhaps more flamboyant, struggled to balance fame and discipline. His fall was as dramatic as his rise. Prithvi Shaw is another wunderkind who has fallen but may yet find a way back to the pinnacle,” Chappell added.
