SLC reinstate minor employees, approves 6 month extension

The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Friday not only reinstated 3 minor employees, but also approved 6 month extension for them, Cricket Age reliably learns.

Few Months ago, President Shammi Silva led administration had terminated three minor employees – Roy Perera and Hemapala (Drivers), K Leelarathne (Office Assistant) citing that they are above 60 years.

However, after the intervention of a powerful government minister, the matter took a dramatic turn as Friday during the Management Committee (MC) meeting, all the three employees were reinstated, by giving 6 months extension.

“SLC had left with no other option, but to reinstated them and the decision was taken during the MC meeting yesterday” an insider at SLC told Cricket Age.

Interestingly, another terminated employee – Confidential secretary at International Cricket Kanchana Hettiarachi – was not that much lucky, as she has not been reinstated, even as she is much younger than those three employees (54). According to sources, Shammi Silva had indicated to recall Kanchana also with 6 month extension, however a top SLC administrator objected her extension due to some mysterious reasons.

“During the MC meeting, a top administrator accused Kanchana for leaking ExC0 and MC minutes to media. It was laughable and bizarre excuse, as if even a clerical grade employee gets the access of these confidential minutes, than the Maitland Place needs an urgent overhauling” the insider added further.

Kanchana, an employee for last 11 years, was earlier been transferred to SLC “punishment centre’ at Khetterama, without any proper reason. At international cricket, Hettiarachi was handling player affairs, logistics, travel arrangements and visas for National Team, A team, U19 team, IPL contracts, Women’s Team and Emerging Teams and was assistiing overseas teams when they tour Sri Lanka.Interestingly, in last few months, SLC has made it a habit to remove confidential secretaries and female employees without any prior notice or reason. Earlier, SLC removed Dushyanthi Karunanayake, confidential secretary to then Chief Operating Officer Jerome Jayarathne. Then, HR Executive Oshini Samarawickrama, who is a lawyer by profession, was also mysteriously transfered to Khetterama!
