Sri Lankan spinner Akila Dananjaya will not be bowling for 12 months, it has been confirmed. As per the sources in the Sri Lanka cricket, the decision was passed on to the board and the player on 18th September.
Dananjaya was investigated for his bowling action during the first Test against New Zealand at Galle. At the expense of the ICC, Dananjaya traveled to Sri Ramachandra Institute in Channai for the bio mechanical assessment under the supervision of Dr. Aditya and Mr Gnanavel.
As per the reports, Dananjaya’s standard delivery was inconsistent and ranged from 4-17 degrees. Few of his deliveries went over the permitted limit of 15 degree. The data in the report was verified by Dr Andrea Cutti, the ICC’s Human Movement Specialist.
This is 25 year old’s second suspension within a period of two years. His first suspension came in December 2018 and as per the current fiasco, Dananjaya will not be able to bowl till 29th August 2020.
Sri Lanka cricket has been told that clause 8 of the regulations allows for a limited right of appeal against this ruling.
