The Pakistan men’s cricket team has slumped to its lowest-ever spot in the ICC men’s team rankings after the 3-0 whitewash at the hands of England. The Asian side is now ranked ninth for the first time in history, only ahead of Zimbabwe, a team that hardly plays any Tests and is not even part of the World Test Championship (WTC).
Pakistan’s previous lowest slump was eight in September 2024 after suffering a 2-0 home series whitewash against Bangladesh. At the time, their rating points dropped to 76, which was their lowest rating since 1965, apart from a brief instance where they didn’t have any ratings due to not playing enough matches.
Now, their rating points have dropped further by five to reach 71, an all-time low, which should send shockwaves through the country’s cricket system.
Pakistan just didn’t have any answers for England, so much so that pundits in the home country feel that it was poor practice for their team.
The struggle began in the first Test at Headingley, ending in a humiliating defeat by an innings and 103 runs. The misery continued at Lord’s in the second Test, with England securing a comprehensive 194-run victory. The hosts completed the sweep in the third Test at Edgbaston, easily chasing 130 to win by eight wickets.
Pakistan offered the most sembelance of a fight only in the third Test but that was helped by a much-flatter wicket, masking the visiting batters’ abject struggles against the moving ball.
Earlier in the day, ICC confirmed that Pakistan had dropped to ninth and last spot in the WTC 2025-27 table after being docked 11 WTC points for maintaining a slow over-rate. Their points percentage stands at an abysmal 4.63, a fraction of the eighth-best West Indies’ 20.83.
